The Monday group of 14 hikers met at Beekman House on Oregon Street to start a loop that would take us up to Panarama Point, then down through the Britt Festival grounds and on to La Festiva for lunch before we returned on Oregon Street to complete the loop.

It was a grey day with clouds overhead and temperatures in the 40s and 50s.

The trail started with a steep climb up through the forest leading out of the Beekman Arboretum, purple Houndstongue lined the trail.

There were some neighborhood streets to negotiate, then back into the forest grounds donated by the Beebe family decades ago. Near the top, we found some Shooting Stars starting to come up, and the first shoots of Gentner Fritillary, which are only found in the Jacksonville Woodlands.

Later on down the trail, David spotted the yellow Marsh-Mallow flowers along a creek bed.

Even in early March, there were still some local colors coming up in the Woodlands.

Ten of us stopped for lunch at La Festiva, and a chance to warm up inside.

After lunch, it was a short walk through downtown Jacksonville and back out to the Beekman House, where we finished our loop just past 1.00 PM.

Happy Trails,
Rich
